Limon is the perfect leader for this gang of musical misfits. His dexterity with all number of instruments on the stage lays a quiet, but solid foundation for the musical tricks that the others in the band must perform.

Robbie Limon stars as Wallace Greene, leader of the Greene Family Singers, who are singing their way across the country while trying to survive in 1933. Limon was last seen at Totem Pole in the first show of the season, "Hank Williams: Lost Highway and brings his distinctive voice and familiarity with the instrumentation of country and bluegrass to the stage for this musical production.

Wallace, played by Robbie Limon, is an award-winning entertainer, whose mellow and easy styles were perfect matches for the musical selections.
Other vocals include: "I'll Fly Away," "Midnight Special," "House of the Rising Sun".

hen planning our wedding, and more importantly deciding who would play and sing at our ceremony, our thoughts jumped immediately to you. Jason and I have dated for more than 5 years, but our first dates during the first year or more of our relationship were spent coming to Irish Isle to hear you sing. We were wondering if you might consider being a part of our special day. It would really be a fun memory for us.

What a wonderful show! I have been a Hank Williams fan since he started singing in the 50’s and I remember the moment I heard he had passed away in the back of his car headed to Ohio. When I heard you sing his first song at the Show, I really lost it so I was glad I wasn’t sitting close to anyone.
Thanks again for a beautiful show and I know Hank would have been real proud of it.
Hank had the world by the tail but maybe the fame came too quickly for him. We know his death came all too quick,
AGAIN THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL SHOW & KEEPING HANK’S MEMORY ALIVE.
Always A Hank Williams Fan…

Many Hank Williams tunes, including "Move It On Over," "Hey, Good Lookin'" and "Your Cheatin' Heart," were featured in this delightful and engaging production, rewarded by a standing ovation from the audience.
Robbie Limon's performance, as the talented but troubled Williams, was nothing short of extraordinary. Limon captured not only the spirit of the late musician, but also his mannerisms and the incomparable Hank Williams style and voice inflections.
Limon's portrayal of Williams' demise was powerful and gripping, demonstrating the downward spiral the entertainer chose.

TOTEM POLE in Caledonia State Park opened it summer season with "Hank Williams:Lost Highway" (To 6/12) but don't let all of the cowboy songs scare you away. Yes, it is a musical with more drama than song. It tells the poignant story of this cowboy hero (he died at age 29) as he faded away as an alcholic. Robbie Limon convinces you as a look-alike for Hank, and he has perfected the vocal yodel that is endearing to all cowboy lovers in the audience. One of the other greats in the performance is the bass baritone of Elliot Dash who provides superb blues numbers and may have been a model for the young Hank... with his guitar that momma says cost $3.50. Mr. Dash has a powerful voice with a fantastic legato. Jan Boulet as momma managed the early team until Hank reaches a commanding figure at the Grand Ole Opry...then Jon Liebetrau takes over. Clay Arthur, Paul Kuhn, Sean Fri and Brian LeBlanc provide terrific back-up for Hank. Merideth Kaye Clark is the disappointed wife who never achieves a singing success, and Erin Lindsey Krom has lots of theatrical business as she plays...mostly silently on a side stage... a waitress and she manages to have a fling with her idol cowboy as he sinks into alchoholism. The only disappointment was that there were too few songs which hit the top for Hank, but "Your Cheating Heart" was perfectly sung to put the audience back into the 40's an 50's. Director David Hemsley Caldwell did movement wonders on the set provided by James Fouchard. And Samantha Schroer did wonderful details on the cowboy costumes which set off an era of flamboyant clothing. This show is highly recommended and a nice two hour drive from Washington. Review: 'Hank Williams: Lost Highway' pleases even the most reluctant of country listeners
2011-06-02T00:15:00-04:00
Area residents and visitors can agree that there's something very special about Adams and Franklin counties.
In these neighboring locales, inhabitants value family connections, local heritage and hospitality. They also value twangy music by country crooners, as evidenced by the proliferation of country music stations broadcasting throughout the area. In fact, Gettysburg's only local FM station is country format.
It stands to reason, then, that a play about a famous country singer, featuring all of his greatest hits, would be a hit in its own right with local theater-goers. Totem Pole Playhouse in Fayetteville is taking that bet.
"Hank Williams: Lost Highway, opened the 61st Totem Pole season at the theater in the woods on May 28. The show, featuring well-known entertainer Robbie Limon (whose vocal resemblance to Williams is uncanny), enjoyed a sold out show its opening night.
"Lost Highway takes audiences on a journey through the life of hard-living Williams, starting from his humble beginnings as a much-loved son, to his tumultuous life, to his death that came too soon. Throughout his career, Williams recorded 35 singles, including "Hey Good Lookin', "Lovesick Blues, and "Move It On Over. Williams was at the forefront of modern country music, having a major role in transitioning the genre from "hillbilly backwoods music, to a nationally appealing, emotionally complex hit factory. The production, fitting in the genre of jukebox musical, features many of these hits as narrative devices to futher the story line.
Limon is joined on stage by a talented cast, including Elliot Dash as Tee Tot, Merideth Kaye Clark as Audrey Williams, and Erin Lindsey Krom as The Waitress. Jan Boulet and John Liebetrau add important color to the story and Clay Arthur, Sean Fri, Paul Kuhn and Brian "Frenchy LeBlanc provide the music as Hoss, Jimmy, Leon and Shag.
Perhaps most impressive about the Totem Pole production is the use of entirely live music. Under the able musical direction of Clay Arthur, the stage quintet fronted by Limon provides spot on renditions of Williams' hits. Artistic Director Ray Ficca and production director David Hemsley Caldwell have found a perfect fit with Limon. The audience was audibly pleased to hear Limon's dedication to Williams' music and vocal abilities. Williams was known for doing a bit of yodeling, and Limon hit every yodel required, and then some.
Speaking of vocal talent, Totem Pole is equally fortunate to welcome Elliot Dash to the Fayetteville stage. An experienced professional actor, Dash stole moments of the show as Tee Tot, a street singer with whom Williams was acquainted during his childhood. Dash offers stunning, hair-raising renditions of blues spirituals, teaching Williams how to lend emotion to his compositions, and serving as a dramatic device throughout the production.
Not to forget the ladies, Merideth Kaye Clark, Jan Boulet and Erin Lindsey Krom add some much needed color to the stage. Clark, especially, shone in the role of Audrey Williams. Although the part was not written to be likeable, Clark evidently has fun with the script, making for several light-hearted moments throughout the production. Krom was a special delight throughout the show. The set is constructed with areas for Tee Tot and The Waitress at each side of the stage. As a result, these two characters are on stage for the entirety of the production, and can be seen reacting to different events in Williams' life and career. Krom, as The Waitress, can at turns be seen turning her radio up or down, reacting with glee or disgust to the goings on of Williams' life, taking orders, playing solitare, or changing menus. The part, and the way Krom interprets the role, is a delightful comedic foil to the action on the main stage.
There is little to fault with the Totem Pole production, both from an onstage perspective, and in the work of the backstage crew. However, I question the recent proliferation of jukebox musicals both locally and in the broader theater world. Artistic Director Ray Ficca shared with me in a recent conversation that these jukebox productions seem to be popular with audiences. I suppose it would make sense then, to offer those productions which will be successful. There are several non-musical plays to look forward to at Totem Pole this season.
I do find fault with the play itself. "Hank Williams: Lost Highway is obviously a script sanctioned by the Williams family, particularly Williams' son, Hank Jr., who is a country star in his own right. I say this because the play tends to gloss over some of the ugliness of Williams' life, skips some milestones, and completely ignores things like the fact that Williams had another child, a daughter, and was married a second time after Audrey Williams, albeit in a pairing that was declared legally invalid after his death. This is to be expected in a family-approved production. Families want to make their patriarch look good, and show themselves in the best light. "Lost Highway fulfills a natural need on the part of the Williams family. There could have been more honesty amidst the nostalgia and in the long run, audiences might have been appreciative of some brutal honesty. Regardless of playing fast and loose with some of the facts, the play is well-written, and the Totem Pole crew presented an enjoyable show.
"Hank Williams: Lost HIghway continues at Totem Pole Playhouse through June 12, with both evening and matinee shows. A post-show discussion with cast and crew will be held June 10. For more information and tickets to this or any of the other 2011 Totem Pole shows, call 888-805-7056 or visit www.totempoleplayhouse.org.

Great show last night at Franklin Park, Robbie. My 12 year old son had a blast and learned a lot about Buddy Holly and early Rock & Roll. (We went home afterwards and watched a bunch of YouTube videos of him and many of the bands you played.) You guys did a first-rate job! Can't wait to see your Hank Williams show. Cheers!
March 27 at 6:10pm Oh, and then we watched "La Bamba" to close out the evening

Robbie -
We were in the audience at yesterday afternoon's performance. We thoroughly enjoyed the show. Quite an undertaking. We were especially impressed with your solo. Also the versatility of the actors and multi-talented musicians. Even the dulcimer! Who knew?
We would love to see a production of one of your specialty productions - Hank Williams and/or Buddy Holly. We would like to do both. Of course, they would need to be some months apart. Usually we don't repeat any performer in one year but we would consider an exception. I'll be watching your schedule for any upcoming performances.
Congratulations on a great show. Hope we can work something out.

Buddy Holly Rises from the Blizzard
Review by David Sackrider
Rock’n’roll legend has it that Buddy Holly died when a plane carrying him, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper crashed in a snow storm at Clear Lake, Iowa, in 1959. In time, people around here might say that Buddy Holly rose again from this winter’s legendary snowstorm thanks to The Wayside Theatre in Middletown, Virginia.
Warner Crocker and the team at Wayside have overcome the H1N1 pandemic, sidestepped the whims of the Elvis Presley estate, and even prevailed over the snowiest winter in northern Virginia history by producing a rollicking rendition of "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story." Their efforts, once again, have paid off.
In "Buddy" writers Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson tell the short and familiar story of Holly’s ascendance into rock’n’roll glory. They rely primarily on the music Holly created during his brief career, inserting enough narrative to provide a few moments of drama, and quite a few more of comedy. Except for relating the genesis of "True Love Ways" they have not forced Holly’s song catalog to relate to the biographical flow of their book. Janes and Bettinson wisely allow Holly’s life story to run parallel to the evolution of his music without assuming that the songs describe his particular life.
The songs do, however, describe the lives of so many that were young during the nineteen-fifty’s. The songs performed in "Buddy" appear over and over in our cultural memories of the time when rock’n’roll established itself as a valid alternative to big bands, country and western, and the pop Velveeta of Perry Como, Henry Mancini and Pat Boone. The courage of musical creators like Holly threw open the windows through which we hear the wonderful variety of popular music available today. But enough of an aging reviewer attaching significance to the era of his youth.
This production provides a glorious opportunity for Wayside’s performers to exhibit their musical talents. Robbie Limon reprises the Buddy Holly roll from three years ago. His singing and guitar playing have never been in doubt, and his dramatic skill has continued to improve as he becomes more comfortable and capable, broadening the range of his performance. Limon is the lynchpin of the performance – front and center for most of the show. This time out he shoulders the load with ease.
The always-amazing aspect of a musical production at Wayside is how ably the company’s actors take to vocal and instrumental performance. We have to assume that musical director Steve Przybylski, himself an accomplished musician, teaches music at a master level. As an example, Crocker and Przybylski tapped Dacia Dick, who has interned on stage with Wayside and now serves as the company’s administrative assistant, as a backup singer and part-time drummer. She handled it all, literally, without missing a beat.
Vaughn Irving has cranked up his Richie Valens roll a notch over the 2007 production as he delightfully wriggles his way through "La Bamba" which generates peak energy from the entire ensemble. Richard O. Follett’s rendering of The Big Bopper includes a full-bore version of "Chantilly Lace" that also gets everyone stirred up.
Catherine Lovejoy has dressed the cast authentically and in a manner that brings out an interesting point. The fashions of the early rock era do not age nearly as well as its music.
Buddy Holly was, and still is, all about the music. Enjoy.

Wayside Theatre brings back Robbie Limon in the title role and demonstrates once again how getting it right can be, in the words of Mark Twain, the difference between “lightning bugs and lightning” Mr.
Culpepper Star Review...
"Limon, a formidable musician in his own right, channels the Buddy Holly we want to know — the spirit, the voice, the passion, and the wit — and delivers a slam-dunk performance.
Surrounded by a top-drawer cast of musicians and performers playing multiple roles in the life of Buddy Holly, Limon is the gem in an all-platinum setting."

thank you for donating your time and talent to the Wayside Theater. We were thrilled with the outpouring of support and thought your show was just the best. Your son was a knockout and everything associated with the production was top notch. If you do it again we will come and see the exact same thing over again, or any variation thereof. Just the same way that you channeled your signature performers, so did Rhonda Sager with Patsy Cline. Anyone who missed this was diminished by the loss.

I, unofficially with the lack of power vested in me, proclaim Robbie Limon
"The Greatest Living Entertainer in the Shenandoah Valley". The performance
last Sunday at the Wayside was just great.
As your performances are very family oriented and appeal to a mature
audience, I am exploring the idea of an annual event featuring you and or
your band.
Also, a friend that attended the performance with us is from Hagerstown, MD. He expressed interest in
you and or band to be the entertainment at an annual convention in Ocean
City. Let me know if this is of interest to you and I will give him your
contact information.

Robbie Limon is not just an impressive tribute actor. Robbie Limon as Hank Williams is truly amazing. This is as close as anyone will ever get to seeing and hearing Hank again. When he steps on stage Robbie almost becomes the real/legendary Hank Williams Sr. The lanky, stoic personal appearance and the unmistakable soulful voice leave little to the imagination that one of the great music stars of all time has come back to life, if only for a fleeting theater experience.”

My two friends, neither of whom had seen you perform, were transfixed by Saturday's performance, as was I! How pleased you all must be! Congratulations on a fine production; I look forward to seeing it again, before the end of the run.

Hey, Robbie,
I was really impressed (Buddy Holly Show), looks like you did your homework. Now I can't get "It Just Doesn't Matter" out of my head.

My wife and I saw "An Evening with Buddy Holly" at the Franklin Park Arts Center on October 18, 2008. You and your band members are extremely talented and we were treated to a performance we will never forget. I am sorry I didn't know about your tribute to Hank Williams at the Wayside. I have heard reports that it was outstanding. Please put me on your email list and let me know of any future performances.

"Request Line From the 70's". My sister-in-law and I came to the concert at the Middle School in Edinburg this summer. She mentioned she would love to have a cd. I thought this one would be a good choice based on the music selections. Thank you so much for your help.

I can't wait to see Robbie Limon later this month (at Notaviva Vineyard). His Buddy Holly is hauntingly accurate and I heard that his Hank Williams is just as good.

Hi Robbie,
It was good to hear you last night on Brad's radio show of Valley of the Stars. I enjoyed hearing your songs that you wrote and also as to how you go about writing them. Sounds like you're one busy young fellow! I'm sure the new show at Wayside will be a good one as you did a good job with the song of Harry Chapin on the radio show.
I'm sure both you and your wife are proud of your son playing the part of Tiny Tim in the Christmas production at Wayside. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

"Buddy Holly and his band were on stage at the Franklin Park Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 18th - expertly played by by local performer Robbie Limon and his very capable back-up group.
It was like traveling in a time machine going back to 1958. Limon not only nails Holly's voice, moves & mannerisms, he's puts on an energetic & authentic show that kept the audience fully immeresed in the 1950's.

Robbie's Band draws people from far and wide to Griffin Tavern. People ask me all the time 'when are they going to be back' ? It's like one big party from the moment they begin to play, then the dance floor fills up, people just can't sit still ..(including me and Ronnie!)...There's so much 'great energy' at GT when The Robbie Limon Band gives us all a chance to shake it up to Classic rock of the 60s, 70s and 80s! We Love ya Robbie!

We relly enjoyed last night (August 10, 2008) in Edinburg, VA. What a show! Also, we saw you in the Buddy Holly show. I'm old enought to remember listening to him when he was alive. You were great....keep up the good work.

We came out and listened to you guys in Edinburg on Sunday, August 10. I didnt get a chance to come over and say HI during the break but, I just wanted to let you know that you guys sounded great tonight. It was funny because Robbie was appologizing for the small PA not being loud enough when actually, you guys sounded really good way out on the main road. I actually thought my radio was on until I reached over to turn it down and it was completely off.
I was quite impressed.

Basically, I was totally impressed by the level of the musicianship, stage presence, and acting in the Buddy Holly performance. Not to mention the more basic entity—the writing of the play itself, which was perfect—an excellent, straightforward, entertaining, information filled vehicle for Buddy Holly’s music.

Several months ago, a friend of mine suggested that I listen to you play and so I caught your Buddy Holly debut performance at Sherando HS. A few nights ago I caught your gig at the Irish Isle, After listening to you play your Irish Isle gig, I could feel your passion for what you do. There are many "singers" out there, but there are very few that seem to have the passion for their craft.

Last night (May 17,2008) my best friend and I traveled to Stephens City to attend An Evening With Buddy Holly which was both a play and a concert. I have always been a Buddy Holly fan; I have the "Buddy Holly Story" on Dvd and a cassette tape of his music.
Robbie Limon is a local musician who played the role of Buddy Holly and he did a great job at playing the part. Not only did he look like Buddy Holly; he sounded like him too and he can realy play that guitar. The supporting band were also musicians from the area. In between songs Buddy would be asked questions by the band and from the audience about his music and life. He touched upon some amazing facts that you would not know from the movie. A few people danced down front while the music played and caught myself tapping my foot and singing along to the songs. There was also two young girls dressed in poodle skirts! At the end of the show I had the chance to meet Buddy (Robbie) and got his autograph. It was a wonderful concert and now I can say I met Buddy Holly!

My wife and I enjoyed music of Buddy Holly. This is the second time we had the pleasure of seeing Robbies show. We were at Wayside Theater last year (2007) and we look forward to
going to shows in the future.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed
our evening out. We sang along with all the songs (at the new Buddy Holly musical) and generally had a great time. There were two teenage girls sitting in front of us, and they actually seemed to be enjoying it too which is wonderful that they could appreciate the music. My major complaint - it was too short since we did not want it to end.

I was surprised and delighted that ( the new Buddy Holly musical) was primarily a concert. Again, thanks for a great show.

The show was great! I couldn't tell what was scripted and what was improvised. I thought Robbie was very creative.

We have been enjoying the music of
Robbie Limon and his band since we
first heard him at Rapahannock Vineyard
about a year ago. So, we enjoyed the
Buddy Holly play even though we are not
fans of old time Rock-N-Roll. All the
actor/ musicians, including Robbie did
very well, both with the ad-libbing, and the music.

As a fan and admirer of Limon, I have
seen him perform maybe 10 times over
the last 4 yrs. at various places. We
especially liked the mix of songs (in his new Buddy Holly musical) that we had not heard before from him-- he warned us that this would be a surprise. Also, involving the lady from the audience was a very nice touch. His expressions and acting add a lot to the performance. He far exceeds any other talent we have seen around here.

The show (An Evening with Buddy Holly ) was fantastic. I saw Robbie at the Wayside in the Buddy Holly Story
several times. Robbie Limon is the best
musician and showman ever.

I wanted to let you know how happy you made two of our listeners:
'Again, we want to say 'thank you' for
sending us to the Buddy Holly show
featuring Robbie Limon! We had a
wonderful time made possible by the Just Say It! radio program on The River-FM -95.3 with Jeanne Russell. Thanks again!! Keep up the good
work!' K&KY

Robbie limon is an outstanding performer and talented singer. The Robbie Limon Band is an energized performance; solo, Robbie is equally enjoyable. As a performer Robbie always brings a freshness to each show as though he were performing for the first time. He has the ability to become the person he portrays, from Hank Williams, Sr., to Buddy Holly. A joy to watch and a fun time for all. He always leaves you wanting more!!!

This is a quick note to tell you how great your show ( Lovesick Blues- The Life and Music of Hank Williams Sr.)was on December 29, 2007. The theater was packed (500 capacity?). I could not help to notice but a lot of grey heads like myself.
The handout referred to "Buddy Holly" this spring, is it a CD release or a live performance? I can visualize a similar format to Hank Williams for Buddy Holly, as well as other performers as Roy Orbison, etc,
I look forward to seeing one of your performances again, perhaps the Griffin Tavern in January.

-- ---My husband and I were lucky enough to see your show in Strasburg last night. I was looking through the website and wondered if you were going to bring the show back to Scottsville in 2008. I'd love to see it again and would like for my 73 year old sister to see it as well.
